A beautiful friendship blossomed

Ghalib and Hakim, two kindred spirits
Bonded over an insatiable love of poetry.

Throw together a mansion and a poet’s genius
And you get words that shine bright as the sun 
Ghalib wrote his impactful Urdu couplets
Right within these walls, at Ballimaran 

Everything about this place seems poetic 
His words held power then and they do so still
Immortalized in the lanes of Old Delhi
The story of poetry and beautiful free will. 

The story of how tragic losing a friend can be
As Hakim came to realize on Ghalib’s passing
This mansion pays tribute to each little thing
The beauty of poetry, friendships, everything in between. 

𝓟𝓻𝓸𝓼𝓮 𝓡𝓮𝓹𝓻𝓮𝓼𝓮𝓷𝓽𝓪𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓷: 

Almost everything we do here at Kashti is a tribute to art and culture that India happens to be very rich in. With Ballimran, we have tried to bring to life Urdu Poet Mirza Ghalib’s wonderful words. 

A little backstory - Ballimaran was Ghalib’s residence in the nineteenth century, and has now become a heritage site. The palatial house or “haveli” was given to him by Hakim, physician and poetry enthusiast. After Ghalib’s passing in 1869, Hakim would frequent the building every evening, denying everyone else entry. Located in the Gali Qasim Jan in old Delhi, it reflects the time when Mughal era was on the decline in India, and has a certain old world charm with Ghalib’s famous couplets adorning the walls. 

Ballimaran from the house of Kashti has notes of Vetiver, Oudh, Oakmoss, Green Tea, Herbs, Tobacco, Civet, Castor, Cinnamon, Ambergris, Bergamot, Yuzu and stays true to Indian heritage and our very rich roots. It might not come as close to being as poetic as the the traditional couplets by Ghalib, but it’s poetic nonetheless.
