There once lived a lady at the foot of the hills
In a stonewall mansion surrounded by the beach
In her lush green garden grew
The reddest of roses and the juiciest peach
ย
You could see her each day, hair in a bun
Walking with the gardener, him smoking a pipe in the sun
The wind blowing gently, caressing everyone
The fragrance from the flowers would come together as one
ย
In this garden of hers, in this garden of zen
She also grew the finest spices you would find
The cardamom and the cloves, and the lavender and all,
Would paint such a pretty picture in your mind
ย
Sometimes you would see her walking by
Saying hello to a civet or two as they crept in the night
It was a harrowingly beautiful sight
The lady in white, the beach, the picture aglow in the moonlightโฆ

Sampooran II brings to mind the images of a lady living in a stonewall mansion, with a dedicated battery of house-helps. She never married and she inherited a lot of familial wealth, and the location was too beautiful to not settle down in. So, settle down she did. Over the years, she and her gardeners, managed to grow the garden of Zen, a garden so beautiful, it hurt the eyes to watch, because the glory was far too much.
With the air of mystery that surrounded her and her mansion, and her garden, coupled with the location - beach on one side, hills on the other - the lady in white became the stuff of legend. Sampooran II captures this essence perfectly and becomes almost symbolic with cottage-core, an aesthetic that is both romantic, and yet somehow forbidding, at the same time.
